Callum Russell

Callum Russell is a contemporary illustrator and artist living and working in Edinburgh. He studied illustration at Falmouth College of Art and works predominantly in the medium of paper cuts, with its intricate and delicate process, as well as creating illustration for fashion media. Each piece of paper is hand carved with a scalpel to create a dynamic urban landscape. The images are taken from real life city experiences and balance both the abstract effect of architectural patterns and the narrative of those who dwell there.

His ‘papercut’ form of art is steeped in genuinely grand history and his meticulous creations strongly petition your senses to pay close attention. Callum is captivated by the ability of art to connect people with their environment and their emotions in a fluid and seamless way.  His papercut style of art highlights his infatuation, because it incorporates light, shadows, space and movement to display environments/objects/people that in turn, create emotions in spectators.Callum states with his technique, what starts off as a plain sheet of paper becomes a delicate and carefully constructed image.
